The designer wanted to have walnut wood walls in the theater, which would have caused an unacceptable acoustical condition for La Scala. Good communication between the trades was very important. The company installed a James Powerpipe in the same closet and fed into the theater behind an acoustical panel, providing better subwoofer isolation from the rest of the home.
To satisfy this caveat, La Scala located the equipment rack in an adjacent closet. Of course, the client didn’t want to see any equipment when watching a movie. “We also pushed the limits on screen size to create an enveloping feeling for the viewer.” A Stewart Filmscreen CinemaScope curved screen with masking and Runco’s DLP projector with anamorphic lens were used to create a dramatic impact. To pull it off, La Scala “paid careful attention to known installation and calibration techniques,” says the company. La Scala’s mandate was to make the most out of the real estate they had to work with, accommodating as much seating as possible, while maintaining a clean look and feel. Space was the biggest challenge in this 250-square-foot theater. Interior Designer: Waddell & Conder 502 - 55 E.
